Kim Kardashian Travels to Tokyo in Pursuit of Iconic Chanel Necklace Featured in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie Movie

Renowned celebrity Kim Kardashian has ventured all the way to Tokyo with a singular purpose: to lay her hands on the mesmerizing diamond and gemstone necklace hailing from Chanel’s illustrious spring/summer 1995 collection. This necklace, distinguished by its interlocking Cs and elegant tear-drop pearls, holds a prominent place in Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster Barbie film.

For those who have been keenly following Kardashian’s burgeoning jewelry assemblage, her quest for this statement accessory shortly after the film’s release doesn’t come as a surprise. Amidst the current trend of fashion’s beloved It-girls amassing vintage artifacts, Kardashian, a shrewd businesswoman of note (whose memorable appearance in Marilyn Monroe’s resplendent Jean Louis gown at the 2022 Met Gala left an indelible mark), elevates this pursuit to a level that befits a museum-worthy collection.

Earlier this year, the spotlight shone on Kardashian as the proud possessor of the Attallah Cross necklace, once adorned by Princess Diana herself. This historic artifact, worn by the royal at a London charity ball in 1984, found its new guardian through Kardashian’s winning bid of AU$307,650 at auction. Kristian Spofforth, Head of Jewelry at Sotheby’s London, expressed delight at the time, stating, “We are delighted that this piece has found a new lease of life within the hands of another globally famous name.”

Evidently drawn to fashion pieces of significant historical resonance, Kardashian secured Jackie Kennedy’s Cartier Tank watch with a spirited bid of $591,300 at a Christie’s auction in 2017. Noteworthy for its engraving “Stas to Jackie” on the back, the timepiece was a gift from Stanislaw “Stas” Radziwill, the brother-in-law of the First Lady. Kardashian later unveiled that she adorned the same watch during her encounter with former US President Donald Trump at the White House in 2019.
