Thieves steal $2 million in jewellery in another Brooklyn heist

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Three masked thieves stole more than $2 million worth of jewellery in a smash-and-grab robbery at Facets in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighbourhood.

Surveillance video captured three men entering the store at around 5pm on 8 January, according to the New York Police Department.

Armed with hammers, the thieves smashed display cases, grabbed the jewellery inside and fled on foot.

The men stole mostly rings, the NYPD said, with a total value of about $2 million.

In an interview with the New York Post, owner Irina Sulay said the robbery lasted just 38 seconds, with the thieves targeting boxes of diamond engagement rings.

When an employee reached for the phone, the robbers threatened to shoot her, she said, although they did not pull out a gun.

The store will be open by appointment only until further notice.

A week earlier and just two miles away, thieves targeted Roxy Jewelry in the Prospect Lefferts Garden section of Brooklyn on December 30. They made off with about $100,000 worth of jewellery.

The 79-year-old store owner was brutally beaten during the robbery and is in intensive care.
