Ranchi: In a major theft incident, silver worth Rs 20 lakh was stolen from Silver Colony Jewellers in Lalpur. Though the incident took place late on Saturday night, it came to light on Sunday. The thieves made off with valuable jewellery and silver idols worth lakhs of rupees. The institution had recently acquired a substantial collection for Dhanteras and Diwali. After receiving information about the incident, the police launched an investigation.
The thieves gained access to the showroom by cutting through the lock. Silver Colony is home to several prominent jewellery showrooms, making this theft particularly brazen. The establishment had been beautifully decorated in anticipation of Dhanteras, but the thieves struck, making off with precious silver ornaments and idols. The current inventory is being meticulously assessed to determine the exact extent of the silver loss. Initial estimates suggest that the thieves made off with silver ornaments worth over Rs 20 lakh.
