New York— Law enforcement officials have detained and formally charged an individual linked to a string of armed robberies across the state.
Franco Alexander Peraza Navas, 30, was apprehended in Yonkers, New York, on Sunday, as reported by the New York Daily News.
Authorities have accused Navas of being involved in a minimum of two gun-related carjackings and six instances of armed robbery or attempted robbery.
According to court documents, one of Navas’ alleged criminal acts occurred at a jewelry store in Queens during October. Reportedly, he discharged his firearm, shattering a glass partition, then forcibly entered the premises. He purportedly fled the scene astride a black moped after pilfering three trays of diamond and gold rings valued at approximately $375,000.
These incidents unfolded between August and December, during which Navas is alleged to have discharged his firearm in three of the encounters.
Court documents describe the defendant’s actions as undeniably perilous, citing multiple armed robberies and carjackings, coupled with the discharge of firearms during several confrontations.
Law enforcement made an initial attempt to apprehend Navas on November 3, although he managed to evade capture. Subsequently, investigative efforts utilized witness statements and cell tower data to track him down. Additionally, authorities discovered Navas had gained entry to a residence using a key card after a robbery in September within the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood in Brooklyn.
Navas faced an arraignment in Brooklyn Federal Court on Monday, where he was remanded without bail, according to the New York Daily News report.
