New York – Akaila Reid has debuted its latest collection, “Eat Cake,” drawing inspiration from the iconic phrase of Marie Antoinette, “let them eat cake.”
The collection exudes ultra-feminine themes, perfectly aligning with contemporary coquette fashion trends.
Spanning 20 exquisite pieces, the collection features yellow gold bows, pastel-colored sapphires, and blue Tahitian pearls, evoking a sense of luxurious sophistication.
Akaila Johnson, the visionary behind Akaila Reid and an emerging BIPOC designer based in New York City, introduced her eponymous brand in 2020. With “Eat Cake,” her fourth collection, Johnson aims to celebrate the opulence and beauty she encountered during her visits to the French court.
Expressing her inspiration, Johnson remarked, “I have always been drawn to the most opulent and feminine things and ways of life, so I wanted to make a collection that was just wildly me. To me, Marie Antoinette is the epitome of feminine opulence.”
Recalling her childhood visit to Versailles, Johnson reminisced about her fascination with the palace’s ornate grandeur, particularly the opulent bedrooms adorned with captivating colors and patterns. This admiration for extravagance and elegance serves as a cornerstone for the “Eat Cake” collection.
Akaila Reid’s jewelry is designed to infuse joy into everyday life, embodying the beauty inherent in femininity. “Eat Cake” encapsulates this ethos by celebrating the richness associated with feminine allure.
Johnson emphasized her commitment to living authentically feminine and expressed how her personal style evolution influenced the creation of jewelry to complement this identity.
Drawing from introspection, akin to her previous collection “Wavy Baby,” which was inspired by her observations in healthcare settings, Johnson crafts pieces that resonate with her innermost self.
The “Eat Cake” collection offers a range of pieces priced between $1,200 and $56,000, catering to diverse tastes and preferences while maintaining the brand’s commitment to quality craftsmanship and elegance.
