New York— Christie’s website has been offline since Thursday evening following a cyberattack, just days before its spring auctions were set to begin.
As of Monday, the website displayed an error message: “We apologize that our full website is currently offline. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible and regret any inconvenience.”
A Christie’s spokesperson informed National Jeweler on Monday that a security issue has affected some of their systems, including the website. “We are taking all necessary steps to manage this matter with the engagement of a team of additional technology experts. We regret any inconvenience to our clients and our priority is to minimize any further disruption.”
Christie’s CEO Guillaume Cerutti told The New York Times on Sunday evening that despite the cyberattack, eight auctions scheduled for this week will proceed with in-person and phone bidding.
The auction of rare watches, including timepieces owned by Formula One driver Michael Schumacher, originally set for Monday, has been postponed until Tuesday, as announced on Instagram.
The statement to the Times did not specify the status of the online portion of the auctions.
