Columbia, Md.— Edward Arthur Jewelers, a cornerstone of Columbia, Maryland, is closing its doors after 53 years as owner Randy Brooks retires.
The business was founded in 1971 by Randy’s brother, Edward Brooks, with the first store opening in The Mall in Columbia, one of the mall’s original establishments. The brothers were introduced to the jewelry industry by their father, a World War II-era watchmaker who owned his own store.
Over the years, the family-run business expanded to seven locations before consolidating back to its original store, now the mall’s longest-standing tenant. Edward Arthur Jewelers has been a staple in the Howard County community, offering a variety of jewelry and watches, as well as appraisals, custom design, and repair services. The store was named the “Best Place to Buy Jewelry in Columbia” by Howard Magazine for 17 consecutive years.
As Randy Brooks steps into retirement, he expressed his gratitude: “From opening day, and in good times and bad, the community has supported us by shopping here, trusting us, and believing in us. No matter how big or small the purchase was, I want to say, ‘thank you’ for shopping with us.’”
Currently, the store is holding a sale and inviting customers to visit and wish Randy a happy retirement as he looks forward to spending time with family and enjoying the novelty of being bored.
