A remarkable diamond weighing 262.5 carats has been discovered at the Billakh deposit in the Anabar district of Yakutia, according to a report from Alrosa, Russia’s leading diamond mining company.
The massive gemstone was unearthed during a night shift at Anabara Diamonds, where workers were processing diamond-rich sands. This impressive find has been sent for a detailed examination to assess its potential value and quality.
This discovery marks the second major diamond unearthed in the region within a year. On September 10, 2023, a colossal 390.7-carat diamond was found at the same location, becoming the largest gem-quality diamond discovered in Russia in the past decade.
The Billakh deposit, part of the Ebelakh region, is renowned for yielding some of the largest and most unique diamonds in the world. In 2017, the most valuable diamond in Russian history—a flawless pink gem weighing 27.85 carats—was discovered here. This rare gem was later transformed into the famous “Spirit of the Rose” diamond.
