Jewelry Auction By Freeman’S | Hindman To Feature High-Value Vintage Pieces

On March 20, Freeman’s | Hindman will present its highly anticipated Important Jewelry Sale in Chicago, a dazzling event featuring an exceptional selection of diamonds, Belle Epoque and Art Deco designs, and iconic creations from renowned houses such as Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Cartier.

Collectors and connoisseurs will have the opportunity to acquire some of the most historically significant and exquisitely crafted pieces available on the market today.

Among the notable heirlooms included in the sale are pieces from the private collection of the Stuyvesant Fish family, one of New York’s most prominent lineages, descending from the colonial governor of New Amsterdam. Key highlights include a Burma sapphire ring and an exquisite French sapphire, diamond, and emerald bracelet, both embodying the grandeur and sophistication of New York’s elite society in the late 19th century.

Another exceptional piece in the auction is a Belle Epoque frontispiece by Cartier, once owned by Sarah Helen Frelinghuysen Davis McCawley (1856–1939), daughter of Frederick T. Frelinghuysen, a former U.S. senator and secretary of state.

This remarkable platinum jewel, set with approximately 12.25 carats of old European and old mine-cut diamonds, accented by rose-cut diamonds and white enamel, epitomizes Gilded Age opulence. Traditionally worn as a necklace with a black velvet ribbon, this rare treasure is estimated to sell between $15,000 and $25,000.

The marquee piece of the auction is an 11.97-carat pear brilliant-cut diamond ring in platinum, flanked by two trillion-cut diamonds, estimated at $150,000–$200,000. Other top-value lots include a 12.45-carat diamond ring by Aletto Brothers and an 8.88-carat fancy yellow diamond ring, both estimated to exceed $100,000.

Additional Auction Highlights:

Aletto Brothers Platinum Ring: Featuring a 9.01-carat cushion modified brilliant-cut diamond, with 1.71-carat and 1.73-carat half-moon-cut diamonds; estimate $100,000–$150,000

Fancy Yellow Diamond Ring: Platinum and 18k yellow gold ring set with an 8.88-carat radiant-cut fancy yellow diamond and approximately 2 carats of bullet-cut diamonds; estimate $80,000–$120,000

Cartier Art Deco Earrings: Platinum earrings adorned with 2.5 carats of old European and single-cut diamonds, pearls, and enamel; estimate $30,000–$50,000

Burma Sapphire Ring: Platinum ring set with a 3.25-carat cushion-cut Burma sapphire and single-cut diamonds, from the Stuyvesant Fish family; estimate $10,000–$15,000

Diamond and Emerald Art Deco Bracelet: Early Art Deco design featuring old European-cut diamonds, round emeralds, square step-cut sapphires, and single-cut diamonds in gold-topped platinum; from the Stuyvesant Fish family; estimate $8,000–$10,000
