Bonhams’ Jewelry Sales Surge to Record Levels in H1 2023

Bonhams global jewelry department has announced its financial performance for the first half of 2023, reporting “its most successful first half to date” after sales increased 40% year-on-year, according to a report in Professional Jeweler.

The British auction house held 40 jewelry sales during that period (compared to 24 dedicated sales in H1 2022). 6,428 individual lots were sold in the first half, the most prominent of which included the Leviev emerald cut diamond ring (sold for $2.7 million) and a Fancy pink diamond ring, which sold for $1.2 million.

Global registration increased 39% year-on-year. Bonhams also reported 32% growth in 2023, with global sales totaling £550 million ($707 million) in H1 – “the best results ever achieved in the first half in the company’s 230-year history.”

Jean Ghika, Bonhams global director of jewelry, said: “Bonhams jewelry continues to see growth and success across the globe […] With the 40% growth in auctions both online and live, and with the addition of The Weekly: Jewelry, Bonhams Jewellery has successfully broadened the scope and offering to our clientele.”
