Thane city police in Maharashtra have apprehended three Nepalese men believed to be involved in a theft at a jewellery shop, where gold worth Rs 3.2 crore was stolen. The arrests were made by the crime branch officials on August 20, according to an official statement.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Madhav Giri, Dinesh alias Sagar Rawal, and Deepak Bhandari, all hailing from Nepal. The police were successful in recovering 550 grams of the stolen gold, valued at Rs 33 lakh, from the trio.
The theft occurred on June 27, when a group of miscreants reportedly broke into a jewellery shop situated in the main market area of Ulhasnagar town. The thieves made away with 6 kg of gold jewellery valued at Rs 3.2 crore, as confirmed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shivraj Patil.
Utilizing CCTV footage from the vicinity and employing technical analysis, the police established that the culprits were of Nepalese origin, revealed Patil. Subsequently, police teams conducted an extensive search across Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, Varanasi, and nearby districts bordering Nepal. The efforts culminated in the arrest of the trio in one of the border areas.
While three members of the gang have been apprehended, investigations suggest that seven more individuals could be linked to the criminal act, as stated by the official.
