Notable jewelry retailer and industry expert, Stephen Barnes, has been named the new President of the Independent Jewelers Organization (IJO). The official announcement of his appointment took place during the organization’s recent conference held in Cleveland, Ohio, which saw a participation of over 1,000 members.
Barnes, the CEO of Barnes Jewelers based in Goldsboro, North Carolina, has an extensive history with IJO, having been a member for nearly 25 years. His association with the organization further expanded in 2020 when he assumed the role of business consultant. Moreover, Barnes has served as an advisor for Edge Retail Academy, a prominent jewelry industry consultancy.
Jeff Roberts, IJO’s Owner and Chairman, highlighted Barnes’ qualities, stating, “Stephen is a bright, smart and passionate individual with experience in running a successful and profitable retail jewelry store. His added expertise in succession and transition planning only adds to his long list of qualifications.”
In his address to the audience, Barnes conveyed his vision for IJO, outlining several goals. His agenda includes a revitalized education program, enhanced technology resources, and the establishment of a comprehensive blueprint for store succession and transition planning.
He further elaborated, “The vision of IJO is to enhance the lives of its members through the power of unity. Our goal is to grow stronger together and further solidify the integrity of our industry.”
