Creating new jewellery designs is what Martin Katz does every day, so when he was given the opportunity to curate a “diamond menu” with one of California’s most prestigious hotels, he says he couldn’t wait.
On 12 August, also known as World Diamond Day, the Beverly Hills-based jeweller and Nobu Ryokan Malibu unveiled their collaboration, creating a diamond-studded guest experience at the hotel. Guests staying in the premium beachfront suites can sample everything from diamond-themed signature cocktails to gourmet breakfasts and diamond facials.
“Curating the diamond menu was an inspiring process for me. I tried to think like a chef and create an enticing and delicious diamond experience for guests,” says Katz. “It’s called a diamond menu because it’s an exclusive, curated selection of more than a dozen pieces, including one-of-a-kind diamond jewels that are available for same-day delivery for a personalised try-on.”
For those who might not want to drive from the beach to the city to shop, Katz says he wanted to recreate the same luxury experience his customers enjoy at his Beverly Hills penthouse store in the iconic Fred Hayman building, which he opened last spring.
In other words, Katz says, hotel guests can have breakfast in bed with a side of diamonds.
“What could be more romantic than listening to the ocean waves and having diamonds on your pillow?” Katz says. “The diamond menu is a fun way to experience jewellery shopping with the special someone in your life.”
Katz says Ryokan Malibu approached him to collaborate on a unique jewellery and hospitality experience to celebrate National Diamond Day. The partnership will continue through the autumn and evolve into a holiday program later in the season.
“Being introduced to the guests of Nobu Ryokan Malibu and sharing our diamonds and jewels with people who may not be familiar with our brand is always an exciting event for us,” says Katz. “This personalised, bespoke experience on their property is truly different from anything offered at the finest luxury resorts.”
Afterwards, hotel clients are invited to a private session in his penthouse store to enjoy a personalised one-on-one appointment with Katz, who says his goal is always to be a “jeweller like no other. My hope is that our ongoing partnership will continue to evolve throughout the season with a series of curated events for their guests throughout the year”.
