New York – As David Rocha retires, Jewelers for Children has named his successor.
Sara Murphy is the new executive director of the organisation. She will begin her role on 24 October.
Murphy has nearly two decades of experience working for non-profit organisations.
Most recently, she was the director of development at the New York City Anti-Violence Project, according to her LinkedIn page. The organisation aims to help members of the LGBTQ+ community and people living with HIV who are survivors of violence.
Previously, she was the director of development for the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, an organisation that aims to facilitate conversations about human rights abuses through the physical places where abuses have occurred.
Murphy has also worked as a consultant to non-profit organisations.
Her career has included fundraising, event planning and organisational management, the JFC said.
She has been involved in board development and volunteer activities.
“Sara brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to Jewelers for Children, and we could not have found a better candidate to help the charity grow in the years ahead,” said Jeffrey Cohen, JFC board chair.
“Her knowledge of nonprofit organisations will allow her to hit the ground running and continue our mission of improving the lives of children.”
Murphy added: “I am honoured to be joining Jewelers for Children and look forward to building on the amazing work David has done over the past 19 years.
“JFC’s board of directors is an incredible group of people who ensure that life-changing funds go to the children who need them most, and I look forward to working with them to continue and expand our impact.”
Founded in 1999, Jewelers for Children has raised more than $61 million from the US jewellery industry for its partner organisations, all of which help children in need.
Outgoing Executive Director Rocha announced his retirement last month. Prior to JFC, he was Senior Vice President of Jewelers of America and before that, Deputy Executive Director of MJSA.
