The International Gemological Institute (IGI), the world’s largest independent gemological laboratory, invites the world’s creatives to participate in its free online jewellery design competition, the IGI Expressions™ Awards. Since its inception in 2021, IGI Expressions has attracted more than 1000 design submissions from over two dozen countries.
This year’s theme is “Abstract Design and Retro Motifs”. Entrants are encouraged to draw inspiration from their everyday surroundings, personal stories and individual experiences as they approach this fusion of design and theme; to compose an experiential ‘visual symphony’ that transcends time – blending the charm of yesteryear with modern design elements.
Entrants can enter in three design categories: Statement Piece, Convertible Jewellery and Perfume Bottle or Jewellery Box. Each category has separate segments to accommodate different submission preferences; by hand-drawn sketch, Computer Assisted Design (CAD) file or iPad file. Approximately 50 designs will become competition finalists, from which nine champions will be selected, one in each submission segment for each of the three categories.
“IGI specialises in grading jewellery around the world,” said IGI CEO Tehmasp Printer. “We witness the vital role creativity plays in designing gemstone jewellery that moves and inspires others. IGI is pleased to invite jewellery enthusiasts around the world to participate and be recognised as we continue to encourage and support creative alent.”All entrants will receive an official IGI Expressions™ certificate.
Finalists will receive finalist certificates, coverage on the IGI GemBlog and exposure on IGI’s social channels. The nine winners will have their designs manufactured by a competition partner, receive a cheque for $500 (except in sanctioned regions), an IGI Expressions™ trophy, certificate and 3D prints of the design, as well as recognition through press coverage, the IGI GemBlog and social channels. Winners will be announced on 1 February 2024.
