A pioneer’s legacy: Contributions to the Indian Gem Trade
During his tenure as Chairman of the GJEPC from 1970 to 1971, Mr Doshi played a pivotal role in establishing the GII, the country’s first gemmological institute. His visionary leadership extended to the formation of several industry bodies, including the Precious Stone Importers Association, Diamond Exporters Association Ltd. and the Bharat Diamond Bourse. His indelible mark on the global gemstone community has been characterised by passion, integrity, innovation and foresight.
Honours and Recognitions: A life well lived
Mr Doshi’s illustrious career has garnered numerous accolades, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the GJEPC in 2012. As Chairman Emeritus of GII and Shrenuj & Co, his family’s former business, he continues to be a guiding force in the industry.

Born in 1922 in Palanpur, Gujarat, Mr Doshi began his career in the diamond industry at an early age. Under his leadership, his father’s business grew into one of India’s leading diamond manufacturing and export companies. Recognised as a pioneer in the adoption of modern technology and ethical business practices, he contributed significantly to the evolution of diamond cutting and polishing.
A lasting legacy
Mr Kirtilal K. Doshi is survived by two sons, a daughter and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on, marking an era of growth, innovation and ethical standards in the Indian gem and jewellery industry.
