During his visit to Beijing, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov addressed the impact of Western-imposed restrictions, emphasizing their broader repercussions not only for Russia but also for the nations enforcing these measures. Siluanov affirmed that despite these constraints, diamond exports would persist, with a strategic shift in sales focus towards alternate regions. He expressed confidence that such measures would not bode well for the entities imposing sanctions.
Earlier, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary to Vladimir Putin, had warned of a potential “boomerang effect,” indicating that the G7 nations implementing sanctions would endure more significant consequences than Russia.
In response to what Russia perceives as “unfriendly and illegitimate actions,” its foreign ministry announced plans to retaliate. This retaliation involves barring additional European institutions and EU member states from entering the country, a move seen as a response to the imposed sanctions.
