New York— The International Gemological Institute (IGI) recently announced the launch of its third consecutive annual online jewelry design competition, extending an open invitation to designers across the globe.
The IGI Expressions jewelry design contest is characterized by its free entry, entirely funded by IGI. This year’s edition introduces fresh categories and revolves around the theme “Abstract Design With Retro Motifs.” The aim is to inspire designs that seamlessly fuse contemporary jewelry craftsmanship with timeless, nostalgic motifs from bygone eras.
Participants can choose from three distinct categories: Statement Piece, Convertible Jewelry, and Perfume Bottle or Jewelry Box.
Designers are encouraged to draw inspiration from their daily surroundings, including elements from their homes, workplaces, and other environments. Entries can be submitted in the form of hand-sketched designs, CAD renditions, or iPad-generated designs.
IGI expressed its vision to acknowledge and celebrate outstanding talent within the jewelry industry, emphasizing a diverse range of designs that encapsulate the essence of artistic expression.
Tehmasp Printer, CEO of IGI, highlighted the significance of acknowledging designers’ exceptional contributions to the industry, stating, “Designers infuse ingenuity and creative flair into our industry, warranting recognition for their exceptional craftsmanship.”
“We urge all artists to participate for a chance to secure prestigious titles adjudicated by our esteemed global panel,” added Printer.
This year’s panel of judges comprises six industry experts: Punit Balana, an international fashion designer; Severine Ferrari, founder and editor-in-chief of Engagement 101 Magazine; Tania Heikal, a professional gemologist, influencer, and blogger; Pradeep Jethani, CEO of Jet Gems, doubling as a jewelry designer and producer; Helen Mao, an international jewelry consultant, author, and curator; and Sonal Sawansukha, jewelry designer and co-founder and creative director at Jewel Saga.
Judging will span over a week following the conclusion of submissions, with winners set to be unveiled on Feb. 20.
Nine exceptional designs will be selected for manufacturing. In addition to having their designs brought to life, winners will receive an IGI Expressions Champion Trophy, Champion Certificate, 3D prints of their designs, press coverage, exposure on IGI’s GemBlog and social media platforms, and a $500 cash prize (with exceptions for designers in sanctioned countries).
All participants will be awarded an official IGI Expressions participation certificate. Furthermore, finalists will receive a finalist certificate and garner attention on IGI’s GemBlog and social media outlets.
Artists have until Jan. 31 to submit their designs online for consideration.
