The recently inaugurated Surat Diamond Bourse is preparing to introduce a Special Notified Zone (SNZ), aimed at optimizing the import process for rough diamonds sourced from major mining entities. The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has affirmed that this SNZ will stand as a pivotal establishment within India.
Encompassing a substantial area of 4,500 square feet, the facility will feature 15 cabins, a cutting-edge high-security monitoring room, and a comprehensive round-the-clock security infrastructure.
The inception of this SNZ within the $355 million Surat Diamond Bourse, acknowledged as the world’s largest office building, was initially proposed in 2014. Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled this concept during the World Diamond Conference held in Delhi, underscoring its strategic significance within the gemstone industry.
