The highly anticipated IIJS Signature 2024 commenced with an impressive inauguration, drawing numerous luminaries from the jewelry industry. The event unfolded at the Jio World Convention Centre (JWCC) from January 4 to January 7 and continued at NESCO from January 5 to January 8.
Among the esteemed guests were industry leaders like Joy Alukkas, Chairperson of Joyalukkas, Anoop Mehta, President of Bharat Diamond Bourse, and Rajesh Mishra (IRS), Zonal Development Commissioner of SEEPZ-SEZ.
The presence of key figures from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) further elevated the event, with Vipul Shah (Chairman), Kirit Bhansali (Vice Chairman), Nirav Bhansali (Convener, National Exhibitions), and Sabyasachi Ray (Executive Director) gracing the occasion.
Addressing the gathering during the inauguration, Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Textiles, highlighted Mumbai’s pivotal role in the gem and jewelry sector. He underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unwavering support for the industry, emphasizing its growth and expansion.
Goyal applauded the rapid advancements in the lab-grown diamond industry, attributing its success to the collective efforts of every sector participant. Emphasizing the significance of secure gem and jewelry transportation and logistics excellence, he highlighted their crucial role in this progressive journey. Goyal expressed confidence in Indian diamond traders leading the global diamond supply chain.
“We are committed to establishing a comprehensive ecosystem that fosters the diamond business in India, positioning Mumbai as its growth nucleus,” stated Goyal. He outlined plans for a dedicated 20-acre land in Mhape, Navi Mumbai, along with the upcoming diamond bourse in Navi Mumbai, complementing the existing Surat Diamond Bourse, to further fortify the industry’s presence.
Goyal shed light on the ambitious project at SEEPZ, highlighting the imminent emergence of the Common Facilities Zone (CFZ). Noteworthy initiatives encompass the development of cutting-edge training programs for physically challenged individuals and modernizing SEEPZ facilities to create a more opulent and contemporary center. He advocated for collaboration between Mumbai and Surat to foster diamond industry growth.
The Minister also highlighted the promising Jewellery Park near Mhape, Navi Mumbai, supported by both state and Central governments. The aim is to match global standards set by renowned international facilities, like the one in Dubai. Goyal highlighted India’s potential, citing its demographic strength, talent pool, and creative prowess, as significant advantages for global competitiveness in this sector.
“Innovation and our unwavering spirit will undoubtedly propel the Indian gem and jewelry industry to unparalleled heights on the global stage,” concluded Goyal, encapsulating the aspirations for the industry’s journey ahead.
