The Diamond Manufacturers & Importers Association of America (DMIA) is set to unveil a significant milestone through a special member meeting, marking the launch of the DMIA Diamond Screening and Verification Laboratory in partnership with the International Gemological Institute (IGI). This collaborative effort aims to introduce a same-day diamond verification service, an industry-changing endeavor.
Scheduled for 12:00 noon on January 10th at the Diamond Dealers Club located on the 11th floor of the Gem Tower, 50 West 47th St., New York, the event will herald the inception of this groundbreaking venture.
Under the leadership of the Diamond Integrity Committee (DDIC), chaired by DMIA Vice President Matthew Schamroth, the DMIA has unveiled two pivotal initiatives designed to significantly benefit DMIA members and the bustling business community within New York’s Diamond District.
The primary initiative involves the establishment of the DMIA Diamond Screening and Verification Laboratory at the DMIA’s executive office at 580 5th Ave, suite 625. Adhering to the guidelines set forth by Project Assure, the DMIA has equipped its office with four De Beers Diamond Verification Instruments (DVI’s) and GIA’s iD100, available for member use as a complimentary benefit. Access to these tools will be by appointment only, with additional information to be provided during the meeting.
In tandem with this effort, IGI, in collaboration with the DMIA, is in the beta-testing phase of a novel diamond verification service offering same-day processing for both individual stones and diamond parcels. While this service initiated a “soft launch” on December 18th, the official unveiling is scheduled for January 10, 2024, immediately following the DMIA members’ meeting. Detailed insights about this service will be furnished during the launch event.
Stuart Samuels, President of DMIA, emphasized, “The significance of diamond verification cannot be overstated in safeguarding the integrity of the natural diamond industry and the reputation of our members. We strongly encourage members to attend the event on January 10th to gain comprehensive insights into these transformative initiatives!”
Recognizing the crucial role of diamond verification across the entire diamond supply chain, the DMIA extends a warm invitation to members of the Diamond Dealers Club (DDC) and the International Diamond Credit Association (IDCA) to participate in this significant event. The meeting will unveil plans for DDC and IDCA members to engage with and benefit from these innovative programs.
Representatives from IGI, alongside DDIC committee members, will provide detailed presentations during the event, offering an opportunity for attendees to delve deeper and engage in a productive Q&A session. Complimentary refreshments and pastries will be served, fostering a conducive environment for collaborative discussions.
