A comprehensive study presented by Pierluigi Ascani from Format Research during Vicenzaoro highlighted the growing interest in lab-grown diamonds, with 85% of consumers learning about them through jewellers and experts (42.2%) or online platforms (38.5%). Despite this awareness, 80% of consumers continue to choose natural diamonds, citing lasting value, rarity, and uniqueness. The discussion, moderated by Federpreziosi director Steven Tranquilli, involved industry experts such as Federpreziosi president Stefano Andreis, Rinaldo Cusi, president of the Italian Gemmologists Association, and Davide Bolzoni, a jeweller and gemmologist.

The meeting titled “Milanese Goldsmith Art. Gold, Enamels and Semi-precious stones” highlighted Gianmaria Buccellati’s remarkable ability to reinterpret precious materials, creating innovative designs in dialogue with historical art. Paola Venturelli, Scientific Director of the Gianmaria Buccellati Foundation, underscored the goldsmith’s talent in re-processing artistic expressions from Antiquity to craft unique jewellery. The gemmological analysis of the extraordinary Holy Grail Cup, a 2013 creation, was presented by Loredana Prosperi, Director of the Italian Gemmological Institute.

The “Mauro Baschirotto” Prize for scientific research recognized the top five winners in a jewellery design competition inspired by DNA’s double helix. Valentina Scarselli, Aurora Toscano, Francesco Innocenti, and Chiara Asnicar were acknowledged for their exceptional designs. The award ceremony, held on January 22nd, was attended by Giuseppe Baschirotto, president of the Mauro Baschirotto Foundation, along with distinguished guests encouraging young talents to dream for the future.
Intelligence In Jewellery Between Materials And Processes: The Situation At The Jewelry Technology Forum
The Jewelry Technology Forum (JTF) focused on adding knowledge to the jewellery world and facilitating the exchange of information. Massimo Poliero, president of JTF and CEO of Legor Group SpA, highlighted the evolution of jewellery technologies. Topics at the 2024 edition included the advancements in 3D printing, new alloys for goldsmithing, Fairtrade and Fairmined certifications, materials like steel or titanium, welding techniques, nickel-free treatment, Binder Jet Additive Manufacturing jewellery production, digital jewellery, and gemmological material analysis to distinguish natural diamonds from lab-grown diamonds and imitations. A panel from Intesa Sanpaolo also delved into the relationship between the industry and the credit system.
