New York—De Beers Group has announced a strategic partnership with the esteemed trade show Melee the Show, offering its backing to the event’s showcase in New York City, slated for February 5-7.
Launched in 2017, Melee the Show serves as a premier marketplace for fine jewelry, spotlighting designers dedicated to revolutionizing the industry with a steadfast commitment to transparency in the supply chain, sustainability, and ethical jewelry practices.
This collaboration represents a significant stride for De Beers Group in extending support to emerging and independent jewelry designers and enterprises.
Founders of Melee the Show, Rebecca Overmann and Lauren Wolf, hailed the partnership as a pinnacle achievement, emphasizing its pivotal role in enhancing messaging and transparency concerning the diamond supply chain.
“With key figures from De Beers Group on board, we are poised to deliver enhanced clarity and insight into the diamond supply chain. Since our inception, we’ve provided a platform for independent designers to connect with buyers both domestically and internationally,” noted the founders.
The enduring partnership between the two entities was underscored during Melee’s recent showcase in Tucson, Arizona, held concurrently with the gem and mineral shows. De Beers Group’s social impact and sustainability manager, Wanetsha Mosinyi, graced the event, engaging attendees in discussions during a post-show dinner on January 29.
De Beers Group emphasized that the introduction to Mosinyi aligns with its commitment to educating designers on sustainable mining practices and furnishing them with invaluable insights into diamond supply chain transparency and ethical sourcing.
“I am honored to journey from Botswana to impart the story of how gem-quality natural diamonds are ethically sourced to American designers,” expressed Mosinyi.
“It is my aspiration that they take pride in their contribution to the positive impact of natural diamonds, which directly enrich our communities, fostering a sense of pride among their customers. Ultimately, these natural diamonds serve as a conduit, connecting individuals across the globe.”
Melee’s winter exhibition in New York is hosted at The Lighthouse venue on Chelsea Pier 61, welcoming visitors daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until February 7.
The showcase will spotlight a myriad of new designers, including Anahita Guity Stein of Anahita; Anne Sportun; Catherine Sarr of Almasika; Christine Fail of Fail Jewelry; Elvira Cammarata and Valeria Picerno of Elva; Heather B.
