Govind Dholakia, a distinguished 74-year-old diamantaire, has been nominated as a member of the Rajya Sabha from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is the founder and chairman of Shree Ramkrishna Exports Private Limited, a Surat-based company renowned for its diamond manufacturing and exporting endeavors. Dholakia, a first-generation entrepreneur, established the company in 1970, marking the inception of his remarkable journey in the diamond industry.
Beyond his entrepreneurial pursuits, Dholakia has garnered acclaim for his significant contributions to social welfare initiatives. He is actively involved with several prominent Gujarati social service organizations, underscoring his commitment to fostering societal well-being.
Despite his extensive achievements in business and philanthropy, Dholakia’s foray into politics comes as a surprise, given his prior focus on other domains. With assets amounting to approximately Rs 4800 crore, he expressed that political involvement was not a path he had previously envisioned.
