New York—Jewelers of America has revealed the latest additions to the roster of honorees for the upcoming 2024 Gem Awards, slated to be held on Friday night in New York City.
The esteemed Gem Award for Jewelry Style will be bestowed upon British actress and singer Cynthia Erivo, a decorated talent who has clinched Emmy, Grammy, and Tony awards, and earned dual Oscar nominations for Best Actress and Best Original Song for her portrayal in 2019’s “Harriet.
Recognized as a “trendsetting, modern style muse,” Erivo has graced both Broadway and West End stages in notable productions such as “The Color Purple” and is currently making waves with her production and starring role in “Drift,” which recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
In an eagerly anticipated project, Erivo is set to take on the iconic role of Elphaba opposite Ariana Grande’s Glinda in Universal’s film adaptation of the beloved musical “Wicked,” directed by Jon M. Chu and scheduled for release on November 27, 2024.
Beyond her artistic endeavors, Erivo has lent her voice to charitable initiatives, serving as an ambassador for Muse Showroom’s “Have a Heart” campaign, with proceeds benefiting The Loveland Foundation—a cause dedicated to supporting communities of color, particularly Black women and girls.
Marion Fasel, Chair of the Gem Award Committee, expressed admiration for Erivo’s innovative approach to jewelry styling, noting her ability to elevate jewelry as a potent form of personal expression across various platforms. Fasel remarked, “We are immensely pleased that Cynthia will be accepting this esteemed style prize.”
In addition to honoring Erivo, the committee has selected Tiffany & Co. to receive a Special Recognition Award in recognition of the renowned jeweler’s monumental achievement—the renovation and grand reopening of its Fifth Avenue flagship in New York City.
Fasel commended Tiffany’s comprehensive four-year interior renovation of the Fifth Avenue location, now dubbed ‘The Landmark,’ which has garnered worldwide attention and reinvigorated excitement for visiting and shopping at the iconic New York City establishment. “We are thrilled to bestow this Special Recognition Award upon Tiffany, celebrating how The Landmark has set new standards in retail,” stated Fasel.
The annual Gem Awards gala, held in New York City, serves as a platform to honor individuals and brands whose contributions elevate the prestige and significance of fine jewelry and watches.
While the recipients of the Gem Award for Jewelry Style, the Special Recognition Award for Tiffany & Co., and the Lifetime Achievement Award have been announced in advance, the remaining award winners will be revealed live at the event on Friday.
