Hong Kong—The “Happy Hong Kong Natural Diamond Grand Lucky Draw,” a collaborative effort between the Diamond Federation of Hong Kong (DFHK) and more than 350 jewelry stores, concluded its festivities after launching on December 1, 2023. The event drew widespread excitement, with 157 participants being awarded natural diamonds and shopping vouchers for diamond jewelry, collectively valued at over HKD 6 million. A highlight of the occasion was the prestigious award ceremony hosted by DFHK, where a fortunate winner was presented with the grand prize—a 3-carat D color natural diamond valued at approximately HKD 1.9 million, alongside an additional HKD 5,000 voucher for diamond jewelry, showcasing the exquisite allure of natural diamonds.
The ceremony was graced by esteemed members of DFHK and Mr. SHIU Ka-fai, JP, a Legislative Council member representing the Wholesale and Retail sectors, who presided over the distribution of prizes exceeding HKD 6 million in value, comprising natural diamonds and vouchers for diamond jewelry shopping.
Participants who made purchases of one or more jewelry items containing natural diamonds (excluding lab-grown diamonds and watches) from participating jewelry stores during the promotional period were eligible for the Lucky Draw. Among the 157 fortunate winners were participants from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, and occident countries, who received prizes including natural diamonds and vouchers for diamond jewelry shopping. The award ceremony, graced by Hon SHIU Ka-fai, JP, Legislative Council member (Wholesale and Retail), and representatives from DFHK, celebrated the grand prize winner’s acquisition of a 3-carat, D-color natural diamond, retail valued at approximately HKD 1.9 million, enabling participants to share the joy of their shopping experiences and the excitement of the lucky draw with their loved ones. Grand prize winner Mrs. HO expressed her appreciation, stating, “Hong Kong’s jewelry industry is renowned for its high quality and integrity. The professional service and strict regulations, along with rigorous quality certifications, instill consumer confidence. As a connoisseur of natural diamond jewelry, it was an unexpected delight to not only find a perfect piece chosen by my husband but also win the grand prize of a 3-carat natural diamond.”
Mr. Victor Yiu, Chairman of DFHK, remarked, “During the extended festive period, encompassing Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Lunar New Year, and Valentine’s Day, the festive atmosphere contributed to vibrant consumer sentiment, with a total of nearly 12 million visitors to Hong Kong over the span of three months. Benefiting from the rebound in visitor numbers, the total retail sales value in December 2023 and January 2024 reached a staggering HKD 72.8 billion, with the sales value of jewelry, watches, and luxury gifts showing an average year-on-year increase of 37%. We believe that the local diamond industry has successfully emerged from the trough and is steadily on the rise. With the recovery of the tourism and retail sectors in Hong Kong, as well as the resumption of jewelry exhibitions, we are confident that the sales of jewelry can return to pre-pandemic levels.”
In a bid to elevate the shopping experience, DFHK, in collaboration with the Jewellers’ and Goldsmiths’ Association of Hong Kong, introduced four quality assurance marks: the “Natural Fei Cui Quality Mark,” “Natural Diamond Quality Assurance Mark,” “Quality Gold Mark,” and “Reputation Shop Mark.” These initiatives are designed to reinforce consumer trust in Hong Kong’s jewelry market. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the industry remains steadfast in upholding Hong Kong’s reputation as “Asia’s Diamond Shopping Paradise,” championing consumer rights and delivering exceptional merchant services. This commitment ensures customers enjoy a superior and confident shopping experience for natural diamonds.
