Karelian Diamond Resources, an Irish exploration company listed on AIM (AIM: KDR), announced on Tuesday a promising development in its pursuit of precious stones in Finland. The company revealed indications of diamond-bearing kimberlite in an area where it previously discovered a rare, pale green diamond.
According to the results of its latest electron microprobe analysis, which enables chemical analysis of solid materials, Karelian identified a diamond stability field in the region. This finding suggests the presence of diamond-bearing kimberlite, potentially serving as the source of the green diamond unearthed in 2022.
“The discovery of the source of the green diamond could hold significant implications,” stated the company, emphasizing the allure of colored diamonds, particularly green ones, which command prices multiples higher than clear, colorless diamonds.
While focusing on this promising asset, Karelian is actively exploring and advancing other prospects in Finland, including the Lahtojoki deposit. The company has already submitted a mining permit application to initiate development at Lahtojoki, where a notable proportion of pink diamonds has been identified. If the project proceeds, Lahtojoki would mark Europe’s inaugural diamond mine outside Russia, signifying a pivotal milestone in the region’s mining landscape.
