Dallas—A pivotal court date has been scheduled in the legal proceedings against New York jeweler David Walton, who faces assault charges in connection with the tragic death of a fellow jeweler last month.
The Dallas District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the case involving Walton is set to be presented to a grand jury on May 7.
Walton, aged 41 and the proprietor of Hudson Valley Goldsmith in New Paltz, New York, was in Dallas attending the Independent Jewelers Organization (IJO) show, held from March 9 to 12 at the Hilton Anatole.
The incident occurred during the late hours of March 12 at the hotel bar, where Walton allegedly pushed another jeweler, David Ettinger. Tragically, Ettinger succumbed to his injuries the following day.
As per a report from the Dallas Police Department, Walton was apprehended and charged with aggravated assault on March 13.
Dallas-based attorney Barry Sorrels is representing Walton, as indicated by a public log for upcoming grand jury cases in Dallas County.
Sorrels, when approached by National Jeweler, stated, “Due to the sad and unfortunate circumstances that led to this investigation, we feel it would be inappropriate to litigate this matter in the news. We would like to extend condolences to the Ettinger family. In the meantime, we intend to respect the investigative process. David Walton will share his story at the appropriate time in the appropriate forum.”
