LOWER SOUTHAMPTON TWP., Pennsylvania – Authorities in Lower Southampton Township are actively seeking two suspects involved in what has been termed a “distraction burglary,” during which several valuable jewelry items were stolen.
The incident occurred on Thursday on Hilton Avenue within the Oakford area of the township. According to police reports, a man and a woman approached a homeowner under the pretext of discussing sealcoating the driveway. When their proposal was declined, they then requested to use the bathroom.
Upon gaining entry into the residence, approximately one hour later, the homeowners made the unsettling discovery that multiple pieces of jewelry had gone missing.
Speaking to Action News on condition of anonymity, the victims recounted their experience. The woman explained that her husband, who is hearing impaired, was using his closed captioning device as the female suspect was allowed to use the bathroom. It was during this time that the male accomplice vanished from sight.
“In that moment, he looked up, and the guy was gone, having made his way upstairs into our bedroom,” she recounted.
Alerted by her husband’s shout, the couple promptly left the premises, observing the suspects departing the neighborhood in a red Ford pickup truck. Notably, both the truck’s bumper and grille are painted red. Police have observed that the vehicle lacks a bed liner or tailgate, and is equipped with sealcoating apparatus at the rear.
Among the stolen items were the woman’s engagement ring and wedding band, alongside a ring and necklace that held sentimental value as they belonged to her deceased mother, who passed away in January.
“I’ve been reaching out to about 20 pawn shops, hoping that someone may attempt to pawn them, enabling me to recover these irreplaceable pieces,” expressed the victim.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding this burglary or the whereabouts of the suspects to come forward, emphasizing the importance of community assistance in apprehending those responsible for such crimes.
