During an early morning heist in Montgomery County, a store owner shot a would-be jewelry thief at Jems Jewels & Gold in The Shoppes at English Village shopping center, just off Bethlehem Pike (Route 309) in North Wales, Pennsylvania, according to Horsham Township police.
The incident unfolded shortly after 5 a.m. as a group of individuals broke into several shops, commencing around 4 a.m., and reportedly breached a wall of a nearby store to gain access to the jewelry store. Evidence of forced entry, including a broken lock at a neighboring Massage Envy location, was visible.
The jewelry store owner intervened as the suspects were inside, leading to a confrontation. It remains unclear whether the owner was already present or responded to a power outage triggered at least one business. During the altercation, at least one suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the arm.
The injured suspect was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries requiring surgery, as confirmed by police. Authorities are currently conducting a search for any additional suspects involved in the incident.
