CENTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man was hospitalized after driving off a hill and crashing into a jewelry store in Center Township, Butler County, on Monday evening.
The incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. at Golden Dreams Jewelers, located at 1615 N. Main St. Ext. A WTAE photojournalist reported that police and firefighters were on the scene, which was taped off for investigation.
Michael Pflugh, Center Township fire chief, stated that the vehicle ran off a hillside roadway about 100 feet above the store, hit a shed, and then fell into the building.
The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was alert when first responders arrived. He was transported by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital.
“The gas line in the back of the building was sheared off, causing a gas leak. We were able to shut the gas meter off and isolate the leak,” Pflugh said.
There was no danger to the public from the gas leak. The store was closed at the time, and no other injuries were reported.
State police are investigating the crash.
