Morgantown, W.Va. (WDTV)— Over the weekend, Zales jewelry store in Morgantown Mall was burglarized, resulting in the theft of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.
According to the Westover Police Department, the break-in occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. Three black male suspects were identified as the culprits. The automated security system at Zales failed to alert law enforcement, with janitors discovering the break-in and notifying mall security, who then contacted the police.
While the exact dollar amount of the stolen merchandise has not been disclosed, police confirmed that the loss is significant. Due to the ongoing investigation, full surveillance footage and detailed information about the stolen items are not being released at this time. However, police have released a photo of a suspect vehicle in connection with the incident.
Investigators are facing challenges in obtaining security footage from other stores within the mall due to corporate protocols, which has slowed down the process.
The Westover Police Department is continuing its investigation and is urging anyone with information about the break-in to contact them at 304-296-6576.
