Lake Charles, La. (KPLC) — Jurors witnessed dramatic security footage today as the trial for Trevion Terry, charged with the 2020 armed robbery of Nederland Jewelry on Nelson Road, commenced.
Four men were arrested in connection with the robbery. While three of the suspects accepted plea agreements, Terry is facing trial. The robbery, which took place four years ago, remains a vivid memory for witnesses still recovering from the trauma.
The jury reviewed surveillance video from inside the store and phone video from a bystander outside. The footage showed one robber wielding a gun while the others used hammers to smash glass cases, stealing approximately $300,000 worth of merchandise, including over 30 Rolex watches and other jewelry.
Terry is accused of being one of the four robbers and is charged with armed robbery with a firearm. The heist lasted less than 90 seconds, and a tracking device in one of the stolen Rolex watches aided police in locating the suspects.
Police body cam video revealed officers breaking into a shed where Terry was allegedly hiding. An officer identified Terry at the scene and again in court. Prosecutors noted that Terry’s co-defendants have already pleaded guilty in both state and federal court.
Testimony also indicated that one suspect had visited the store the Saturday before the robbery, inspecting both men’s and women’s Rolex watches, which prosecutors argue was part of the preplanning.
Terry’s defense attorney, Catherine Stagg, maintains his innocence and anticipates a favorable verdict from the jury.
The trial will resume at 9 a.m. Thursday before Judge Mike Canaday.
