New York— A 45.07-carat fancy vivid yellow diamond, estimated to fetch up to $3.5 million, was withdrawn from Phillips’ jewelry auction held in New York on June 12.
Phillips had promoted the unnamed diamond as a highlight of the sale but removed it before the auction began. The auction house provided no further details on the withdrawal.
This follows a similar incident a month earlier when “The Allnatt,” a 101.29-carat fancy vivid yellow diamond estimated to sell for $6.2 million to $7.2 million, was retained by its consignor and did not appear at Sotheby’s auction in Geneva.
Despite the withdrawal, Phillips’ New York auction achieved a total of $2.9 million. Of the 120 lots offered, 93 were sold, resulting in a sale rate of 78 percent by lot and 77 percent by value.
Eva Violante, Phillips’ head of jewels for the Americas, noted global participation in the auction. The highest-grossing items were a 9.81-carat emerald and diamond ring and a pair of diamond earclips, each selling for $165,100.
