On her recent visit to Nigeria, the Duchess of Sussex found a poignant way to pay homage to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
During the trip, Duchess Meghan wore a necklace that once belonged to the beloved Princess of Wales. This touching tribute, a diamond-encrusted cross pendant set on a gold chain, was a thoughtful gift from Prince Harry, according to reports from People. Meghan showcased the necklace on May 11 at a reception dinner held at the Nigerian Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
For the event, Meghan complemented the sentimental piece with a strapless ivory column dress by St. Agni, Dior’s gold knot earrings, nude Aquazzura heels, and her signature Cartier Tank watch paired with a gold bracelet. The duchess is known for her frequent choices of jewelry with ties to Diana, including diamond butterfly earrings and the renowned aquamarine cocktail ring. Notably, Meghan’s engagement ring features two round-cut diamonds from Diana’s collection, flanking a larger cushion-cut diamond from Botswana.
The homage to Diana wasn’t the only family tribute during the trip. On another occasion, Meghan donned a yellow Carolina Herrera dress, previously worn to celebrate Prince Archie’s first birthday in 2020 and to announce her pregnancy with Princess Lilibet in 2021. This outfit was accessorized with a green striped shawl, nude slingback leather sandals, gold hammered disc earrings from Jennifer Meyer, and a gold collar necklace from AURate, adding an extra layer of sentimental value to the ensemble.
