Pharrell Williams, who launched the Tiffany Titan collection last May, has expanded the line with new pieces that draw inspiration from the sea and the legends surrounding it. Williams, also the men’s creative director at Louis Vuitton, has infused the collection with his personal affinity for water, evoking images of mermaids and nymphs whose tears are said to have created pearls in ancient lore.
“The inspiration for this collection comes from my profound connection with the ocean,” Williams explained. “The name ‘Titan’ is influenced by Poseidon, the ruler of the sea and King of Atlantis—Atlantis being the community where I grew up in Virginia Beach. In Japanese mythology, pearls are believed to be formed from the tears of mythical water creatures, which naturally drew me to them as a medium to express my bond with the water.”
Design Elements and Aesthetic
The newly unveiled pieces feature exquisite freshwater pearls set against the backdrop of 18-carat gold, providing a luxurious contrast that highlights the natural beauty of the pearls. Each design is meticulously crafted to capture the essence of the sea, blending opulence with mythical inspiration. The collection builds on the initial Tiffany Titan designs, which featured a striking spike motif reminiscent of Poseidon’s trident. These earlier pieces were available in 18-carat yellow gold or black titanium, and some were adorned with diamonds, reflecting a bold yet elegant aesthetic.
“The detail in all of the jewelry pieces is very intentional,” Williams said. The use of black titanium in the original designs was a physical manifestation of beauty in blackness, while these new pearl pieces represent a more ethereal and aquatic beauty.
