Marimekko, the renowned Finnish design house celebrated for its distinctive clothing, bags, accessories, and home decor, is marking the 60th anniversary of its beloved Unikko floral pattern with a new venture into the world of jewelry.
In collaboration with Finnish jeweler Kalevala, Marimekko has launched a limited-edition jewelry collection featuring the Unikko design. This collection showcases a range of pieces including earrings in two sizes, an ear cuff, pendant necklaces, a brooch, and a ring. Crafted from recycled silver at Kalevala’s Helsinki factory, the collection is priced between $220 and $850. It will be available for purchase on Marimekko’s website starting October 1.
Emmakaisa Kirves, Marimekko’s design director for ready-to-wear and bags and accessories, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Unikko is an iconic pattern, and it has been featured in various forms and locations over the years. It has been a pleasure to see how Kalevala’s design language and craftsmanship have transformed Unikko into something uniquely sculptural and surprising.”
To celebrate the Unikko pattern’s milestone, Marimekko projected the floral design onto the facade of Helsinki’s Ateneum Art Museum. Additionally, the company has partnered with Samsung to create custom cases for Samsung Galaxy products and digital artworks for Samsung’s Frame TV.
Kalevala’s creative director, Aino Ahlnäs, emphasized the successful synergy between the two brands, noting that the collaboration “brought together each brand’s strengths,” effectively translating the Unikko print into a three-dimensional sculptural form.
