The prestigious Swiss Gübelin Gem Lab has inaugurated a new facility in Bangkok, Thailand, marking its fourth global location alongside Lucerne, Hong Kong, and New York. This expansion reflects the lab’s commitment to delivering top-tier gemological services, with a special emphasis on its innovative Gem Passport.
Bangkok, a major hub for the jewelry and colored stone industries, provides an ideal backdrop for Gübelin’s latest venture. The new lab will offer a comprehensive suite of gemological services, including the recently introduced Gem Passport, which aims to address the increasing demand for reliable gemological documentation.
The Gem Passport, available for unmounted rubies, blue sapphires, and emeralds up to 3.00 carats, is designed to cater to a wide range of gemstones, including those of moderate value. This document outlines key gemstone attributes such as species, variety, country of origin, and treatment status. It is issued based on a fully automated evaluation of analytical data, including spectra and chemistry, and is priced competitively at 200 Swiss francs.
Raphael Gübelin, President of the House of Gübelin, highlighted that the Gem Passport leverages artificial intelligence to streamline the testing process, reducing the need for labor-intensive microscopic evaluations. This technological advancement makes authentic gemological documentation more accessible and affordable.
