A new health alert has been issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Health regarding the recall of Yaomiao Children’s Jewelry Sets, due to dangerously high levels of lead and cadmium. These hazardous levels exceed federal safety standards and may pose significant health risks, particularly to young children and pregnant or breastfeeding women.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has formally issued the recall after discovering that the jewelry sets—sold on Amazon between January 2022 and March 2024—contain unsafe amounts of toxic materials. Approximately 6,900 sets were sold for prices ranging from $8 to $21, depending on the specific set.
Lead and cadmium exposure can be harmful, especially in children, as it can lead to developmental issues, organ damage, and other serious health problems. Pregnant women may also face increased risks, which could affect the health of their babies. The jewelry sets in question feature multicolored gems in shapes such as unicorns, butterflies, hearts, turtles, stars, and rainbows—designs commonly found in children’s accessories.
The sets include between three and twelve pieces of jewelry and are silver-colored with vibrant gemstones. The items are sold in lavender-colored boxes, each individually packaged in small plastic bags, and labeled with the phrase “A Special Gift for the Charming You”.
The Parents and caregivers whose children have used the recalled jewelry sets should reach out to a healthcare provider to arrange a blood lead test for their children, as exposure to lead can have long-term effects on health.
