Dua Lipa sparked a flurry of speculation when she posted a series of photos on Instagram showcasing a gleaming cigar band adorned with a diamond on her left ring finger. The post, which marked her “last days of 2024,” led many to wonder: Is the singer engaged to Masters of the Air star Callum Turner? While neither Lipa nor Turner have officially confirmed the news, Lipa has consistently worn the ring since the post, fueling the intrigue.
This soft-launch approach to engagement announcements is becoming increasingly popular among celebrities. Just weeks ago, actress Chloë Grace Moritz made similar waves with her own engagement-related Instagram post. As the speculation around Lipa’s relationship status grows, we sought the expertise of celebrity jeweler Susie Saltzman, a renowned engagement ring designer based in New York City, to give us her insight.
Saltzman confidently believes that Lipa is wearing an engagement ring. “I just cannot think of any other reason to wear an engagement-looking ring on your ring finger when you are madly in love with someone and have nine other fingers to choose from,” she tells BRIDES. While Saltzman considers the possibility of the ring being a promise ring, she believes it’s unlikely, given the styling of the piece.
According to Saltzman, Lipa’s ring features a “solitaire” design with a prominent center diamond. It’s set in a chunky, wide yellow gold band, which is very on-trend for engagement rings,” she explains. “This is clearly not a fashion ring—it’s the type of ring that screams engagement.” Saltzman emphasizes that the left hand’s ring finger is universally associated with engagements, further supporting the idea that Lipa’s ring signifies a major milestone.
Although we’ve yet to get a clear shot of the diamond, Saltzman speculates that the stone is “most likely a round brilliant or old European cut,” set in a semi-bezel, tension, or possibly a fully bezel setting. “The diamond is set low and almost flush with the band, giving it the illusion of floating,” Saltzman says. This setting is a departure from the delicate bands with fancy shaped solitaire diamonds that have dominated celebrity trends in recent years.
As for the value of Lipa’s ring, Saltzman offers a rough estimate based on its design. “If it’s a high-quality natural diamond over two and a half or three carats, it most likely costs between $65,000 and $85,000 on the low end, and $125,000 on the high end,” she says.
